April 22, 2013PR for Payne at New Orleans 70.3
Defending BOUS Champion Matt Payne kicked off his 2013 multisport season with a sterling effort at New Orleans 70.3 yesterday. He was the 2nd amateur to cross the finish line, behind Rodrigo Acevedo of Bogota, Colombia. Matt's time was 4:05:52, lowering his half IM PR set at Soma in 2011 by 1:35.

When a race has been around for thirty years, it has seen its share of talent race through its finish structure. This year is no exception for the 30th Annual Great Clermont Triathlon. Consider that top Florida woman Kailand Cosgrove was 2010 Junior of the Year, was elite amateur champ at St. Anthony's in 2011 (2:01:06!) and was 7th at HyVee last year behind top BOUS veterans like Kim Pancoast and Cindi Bannink and perennial qualifiers Christine Anderson, Hallie Blunck, Megan Riepma, and Natalie Kirchoff, and you start to get the picture.

Right now, Michael Harlow and family are waiting for travel clearance to get to the Congo to pick up their new baby. If they are back in time he'll be making his second appearance representing Virginia at the Best of the U.S. Championship, where he can bask not only in the glow of his growing family, but also in his well-deserved recognition from USAT as Developmental Coach of the Year.
